Whats the difference between rock..and ...rock and roll?

Rock and roll is like 50's rock, strait up rock is like 60's, 70's 80's ect...Whats the difference between rock..and ...rock and roll?
i don't think there's any difference.
rock= alot of recent music (hardly considered,but still considered rock.)

rock n' roll = old rock. talented rock.

thats it basicly.Whats the difference between rock..and ...rock and roll?
No difference, just that the term got shortened.

"Rock and roll" was an African American term for having sex. Think about it, and you understand the music's foundations.
Rock and roll.Old people big hair bands like Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, etc. 50's type music.

Rock.Anything after the 50's up until the present like Green Day, Three Days grace, Daugtry, etc.Whats the difference between rock..and ...rock and roll?
From what I've seen and heard, rock and roll usually refers to the bands of the 50's or 60's--think Elvis, The Beatles, The Monkees, etc. Rock tends to be more associated with louder, harder sounds--for example; AC/DC, Van Halen, Guns 'n Roses, and so on. That's my opinion of it, anyway.
think abbreviations...

rock-n-roll = rock

There are multiple classifications beyond that.. rockabilly, metal, prog rock, etc....

but it's still rock-n-roll to me! (thanks billy joel- but you really don''t rock that much)
Rock and Roll is more sex-related in nature... the kind of music that mom and pop think their little girl might get pregnant if she listens to it....

Rock is more metal... the kind of music mom and pop think will make their little girl worship evil....

Who cares what it is called, as long as you like it!
Rock and Roll = the greatest form of music to ever descend upon the Earth

Rock = Life
i think tom petty said one time in an interview that rock is just a media term that almost all music can be put under, like an umbrella effect...rock and roll is the true classic rock, the "real music" in a world of posers
Rock n' Roll is from the 1950's and early 1960's {pre-1964}

Rock is from the 1960's to the early 1990's

Rock can then be sub-genred into things like :~

Classic Rock {any band / artist originating in the 1960's %26amp; 70's}

Prog Rock

Glam Rock

Folk Rock

Blues-Rock

80's Rock

Grunge

Alternative

etc
