Do you know why good rap music is superior to rock and roll and metal?

Well it is simple. First of all, all of it is ofcourse music from a literal standpoint. Rap is driven by rhythm and rhythm is one of the three theoretical aspects of music. Rock on the other hand is driven by melody. Yet the melodies are extremely simple and primitive. Compare a rock "ballad" to a Bach Sonata, partita or cantata and you will see that it is simply the same simple tune being recited over and over again (usually quite loudly). If I am going to listen to melodically based music I will listen to REAL melodically based music (by the way, try the Italian baroque composer Albinoni, he is extremely underrated). On the other hand, the best rap music (not the commercial stuff) takes complex and and innovative lyrics and using a compelling musical enviornment creates an extremely interesting and original effect. Rock and metal however seem to exist as simply deteriorated versions of far superior melodically based genres of music.Do you know why good rap music is superior to rock and roll and metal?
Ok listen guy I am a Hip Hop head myself and if you are music then you love it all. Early years of Hip Hop were Rock n Roll Beastie Boys, Run DMC. Listen guy Chuck Berry and Little Richard are true Rock n' Roll. I used to be like you but you but can't subject yourself to one genre of music and then dis other music. If you do you are just like them who complain about hip hop saying that any one can make the beats but dont know the complexity of a beat machine. Dont be like them
I'm not quite agree with that, not that I defending the Rock/Metal side... I'm trying as objective as i could.

Actually, the problem is not the genre at all, any type of music has a good artist, a real artist that make real music not just crap that sells; and on the other side was the crap seller, making money son of a fish... as you said "the commercial stuff", that means there's also crap seller in Rap right? so it's the same for other genre of music.

try to listen to a good Rock/Metal, a real music not just a crap seller for money celebrities...

Hope this Help

Bless YouDo you know why good rap music is superior to rock and roll and metal?
damn right u know ur music
you make some good points, except for the rap being good part, gimme some Maiden any dayDo you know why good rap music is superior to rock and roll and metal?
I would have to disagree. Modern day rap originated from a guy by the name of Herc. All he did was buy two records and learn to turn table them and break down the sounds then reconstruct the sounds into a slightly motified beat. No music was composed or written. Songs with lyrics and Classical Compositions are two different things. A guy by the name of Bambaataa sometimes mixed sounds from rock-music recordings and television shows into the standard funk and disco fare that Herc and most of his followers relied upon. By using rock records, Bambaataa extended rap beyond the immediate reference points of contemporary black youth culture. By the 1990s any sound source was considered fair game and rap artists borrowed sounds from such disparate sources as Israeli folk music, bebop jazz records, and television news broadcasts. In 1976 Grandmaster Flash introduced the technique In 1979 the first two rap records appeared: "King Tim III (Personality Jock)," recorded by the Fatback Band, and "Rapper's Delight," by Sugarhill Gang.

Sampling brought into question the ownership of sound. Some artists claimed that by sampling recordings of a prominent black artist, such as funk musician James Brown, they were challenging white corporate America and the recording industry's right to own black cultural expression. More problematic was the fact that rap artists were also challenging Brown's and other musicians' right to own, control, and be compensated for the use of their intellectual creations.

Chuck Berry invented rock and roll in 1955. Berry was a black man playing black music. But times had changed: white kids were listening to rhythm and blues throughout the Northeast, and white musicians were playing rhythm and blues side to side with country music. The music industry soon understood that there was a white market for black music and social prejudice, racial barriers, could nothing against the forces of capitalism. Rock and roll was an overnight success. The music industry promoted white idols such as Elvis Presley, but the real heroes were the likes of Chuck Berry, who better symbolize the synergy between the performer and the audience. The black rockers, and a few white rockers, epitomized the youth's rebellious mood, their need for a soundtrack to their dreams of anticonformism. Their impact was long lasting, but their careers were short lived. For one reason or another, they all stopped recording after a brief time. Rock and roll was inherited by white singers, such as Presley, who often performed songs composed by obscure black musicians. White rockers became gentler and gentler, thereby drowning rock and roll's very reason to exist. Buddy Holly was the foremost white rocker of the late Fifties, while cross-pollination with country music led to the vocal harmonies of the Everly Brothers and to the instrumental rock of Duan Eddy.

Classical is very complicated and yes modern songs originated from Classical, but Classical originated from what came before and so on and so on. And as you can see Hip Hop originated from Rock and Jazz beats. Music by some modern bands are not simple melodies and bands such as Radio head to not repeat their sounds but create original material. It is all in the band and the way the express themselves. Bands such as Led Zeppelin in which Diddy used their original rock beat for his song on the Godzilla sound track. Or the Yin Yang Twins and Lil Jons use of Ozzy's 'Crazy Train' beat. Many rappers use beats already created by the music you say is simple and easy.
Did you say good crap or rap without the c. If you meant good rap you have created a prefect example of an oxymoron.
Since when has Rap music ever been good? If I could speak a rhyme to the beat of a drum, I would have been rich a long time ago!!!
I couldn't disagree with you more.
bob likes rap cause, bob grew up in the housing and can relate to all the **** rappers rap about. to bob rap has meaning and the rhymes are tight. bob talking botu old school rap just so you know.

bob does not understand rock and metal. a girl tried to teach bob, but bob could not understand. girl said rock and metal is about rebeling and the meaning of life. bob does not understand how or why white people would want to rebel or how screaming is meaning of life, but thats just bob opion. bob is not certified to judge which is better cause bob does not understand screaming or rebeling.

how ever bob will defend rap, if you say rap has a silent c bob says rock originnaly had a c instead of a r, thats why rock is ok for girls, but white boyz who listen to rock are ghey and so are want to b white boyz who listen to rock
there is no good rap screaming about killing someone isn't that great
"Nurse, Perceiver has lost all musical reasoning. Give me 500cc's of AC/DC STAT!!!!!"
Even though I do like some rap music, especially old school rap (e.g. Ice-T), I would have to disagree. Compared to some of the rap music there is today, rock has a lot more melody, talent, and credibility since there are real people playing real instruments and someone with a real voice! The ballads are merit talent too. There are some rock acts, however, where it's all this screaming throughout the song. I don't care for too much of that.
The thing is my friend is that no one is going to really care...i mean you listen to what you want to listen to and we will listen to what we want to listen too...to me i prefer blues...but thats me....if you want some good rap or hip hop...mabey you should talk to somone who might know any...
