before rock and roll (assuming around 50s you mean) there actually was some color floating around. that, my friend, was the fresh hardcore blues. i'm talking robert johnson man. ever seen the movie crossroads? yeah. back when people would express themselves with a good harmonica and a guitar with a slide. yeah, blues music has sorta evolved in a way, but the root of all music is....yes, the blues.
In the beginning

Back in nineteen fifty five

Man didn't know 'bout a rock 'n' roll show

'N all that jive

The white man had the schmaltz

The black man had the blues

No one knew what they was gonna do

But Tschaikovsky had the news, he said

Nailed it. They had blues, which is still a good genre.



I guess they could survive because they didn't know such awesomeness existed, until mankind was enlightened. I'm happy that happened!
